Until now, the industrial bike has been the technological equivalent of a 1950's newspaper bike.  That's because it was designed as a newspaper bike and then the smart guys who made them figured out that they could sell them to industrial plants because they were "heavy duty". That paperboy bike is no match for the 24/7 harsh environmental conditions and high safety, low maintenance requirements of an industrial plant. We've found that over 50% of the bikes in industrial plants are unusable at any given time. Chains are rusted and kinked! Tires are underinflated or flat! And the steel components make it essentially a rust bucket! All of which equals unsafe and unreliable transportation with high maintenance requirements.

Airless Solid Polyurethane Tires
Tires that never go flat. How about that?  Improperly inflated tires are a safety hazard, plain and simple.  Flat tires render a bike useless and make it worthless.  Rugged Cycle tires are American made, solid molded polyurethane and will last three times longer than traditional rubber air tires, have 100% consistent “pressure” and therefore a 100% predictable ride, and NEVER go flat.  Safe – Reliable – Durable.

 

 

Chainless Drive Technology
Shaft-Drive Technology
Chainless is painless with the exclusive Shaft Drive system.  Just like a BMW motorcycle, the Rugged Cycle CLASSIC has a fully enclosed bevel geared shaft for pedal power to the rear wheel. No chain to kink, rust, pop off, or snag your Nomex suit and risk a fall.  Just smooth, reliable, safe, maintenance free power to the rear wheel. The chromoly shaft drive and gearing is enclosed in anodized aluminum housing with all stainless steel fasteners.

Stainless Steel and Alloy Components

Rugged Cycles are built with a beefy, oversized aluminum frame for a superior strength to weight ratio.  Lighter is safer.  The front fork is chromoly for added strength.  The wheel sets are made using burly, wide, double-walled alloy rims with heavy duty stainless steel spokes and sealed bearing hubs.  Pedals are oversized alloy with a slip-resistant design.  Even the shift cable is enclosed in a stainless steel sheath.  Virtually all other components are aluminum alloy or stainless steel for maximum resistance to rust and corrosion.  – Modern metallurgy for modern times –  

 

 

 

Dual Kickstands
90% of utility bikes use baskets.  In our research, we discovered that a front wheel mounted kickstand used in conjunction with a rear frame mounted kickstand provides incredible “four point” stability, allowing for safe parking with a full basket load.

Internal Rear Brakes
Here’s where some vintage technology is still the best, but RuggedCycles has improved on “old school” by blending it with new technology.  Virtually all current single speed utility bikes have rear pedal actuated coaster brakes, which is an inherently safe, reliable, and durable braking system and is the exclusive system used by Rugged Cycles.  But in addition to traditional single speed, Rugged Cycles also offers modern internal multi-speed rear hubs with coaster brakes.  This german made planetary geared hub offers two fixed gearing selections that are factory preset and field adjustable. It can also be upgraded to a grip shift 3 speed with stainless steel braided cabling.

Ultra Comfort Seats
We searched far and wide to find a large comfortable bike seat and offer a 12” x 12” gel padded double spring suspension seat.  The brand is Cloud 9, and when you sit on one you'll find out why.

Quick Adjust Seat Knob
None of the available seat adjustments were up to our stantards so we created our own. This Rugged Cycle exclusive Quick Adjust Seat Knob allows true one-size-fits-all seat adjustment with no tools needed.

Polycarbonate Fenders
Old school fenders are made of steel, which means they rust and if bent, can rub tires and gearing, causing premature failures.  Rugged Cycles offers as standard equipment polycarbonate fenders which are flexible and rust free.  All hardware is stainless steel. 

Hand Grips

Even the hand grip has been well thought out.  Our hand grips are American made using elastomeric vinyl material for maximum durability in a constant outdoor environment.  They are designed with a leather-like texture and tapered shape to minimize slipping.  The hand grip ends are also beefed up with thicker material for added durability and protection.
